Network of local residents seek to demonstrate support through an online and paper petition, communications campaign, and ongoing initiatives.
Following a strong demonstration of support at the 2026 International Plowing Match in Walkerton, ON, the Citizens for Bruce C campaign has officially launched to bring together local residents who believe the Bruce C Project represents a generational opportunity for communities across Bruce, Grey and Huron counties – the territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation.
The community-led campaign will serve as a rallying point for residents seeking to demonstrate their support for Bruce C and encourage the advancement of the Project as Ontario’s prime opportunity for new nuclear development. As part of the launch, the campaign is seeking signatures for an online and paper petition that expresses support for the Bruce C Project. The petition will be available for signature online on the campaign’s website and for paper signature across the region.
“We know there is strong support for Bruce C across our communities, and Citizens for Bruce C is about giving local residents a way to make their voices heard,” said Jessica Linthorne, Co-Chair of Citizens for Bruce C. “This is an opportunity for people across our region to come together and show decision-makers that our communities are ready to support Ontario’s nuclear buildout.”
The campaign begins from a strong foundation. Polling conducted by Ipsos in late 2025 found that 91% of residents across the region believe the Bruce C Project will be good for the community. The Citizens for Bruce C campaign seeks to channel that support and advocate for Bruce C as Ontario considers options for new nuclear generation.
“Bruce C has the potential to be a defining opportunity for our region,” said Steve McAllister, Co-Chair. “Our goal is to bring together people who want to see the expansion of Bruce Power move forward and provide them with a platform to express that support.”
Ahead of the official launch, the campaign was active at the 2026 International Plowing Match where volunteers distributed hundreds of t-shirts, buttons, and signs, each with one clear message: “I support Bruce C.” The expression of community support caught the attention of provincial decision-makers in attendance.
“The goal of our presence at the IPM was simple – demonstrate that we have a community that supports the project and is grateful that the Government of Ontario is moving the project forward through the regulatory processes,” said Meagan Fair, Co-Chair. “Now, we shift from expressing that support at a single event to a community-wide, ongoing advocacy campaign.”
The campaign is led by Co-Chairs Jessica Linthorne, Meagan Fair, Shane Chegahno and Steve McAllister, who wrote to Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Energy, Stephen Lecce, in September to provide notice of the campaign and thank the Government of Ontario for supporting the ongoing assessment work to advance the project.
“Today is really about coming together and providing everyone across our territory the opportunity to learn, to get involved, and demonstrate the positive impact if this project comes to fruition,” said Shane Chegahno. “By working together, we can all capitalize on this once-in-a-generation undertaking.”
